Cool, Emerson! Thank you for sharing the sentence here! (I just corrected a typo in your comment and added the ‘s’ after the verb – nothing lastS forever.) And don’t forget to come back here and tell us if you enjoyed the movie!
Please Tim… Sorry, I don’t heard the ‘s’ when she said this phrase… I’m training the listening everyday and it’s a long way until I get fluency… but, slowly but surely and I never say uncle! 😉

The tripp from Rio de Janeiro to Belo Horizonte takes me 8 hours driving.
The trip from Rio de Janeiro to Belo Horizonte by bus usually lasts 11 hours.
Very good, Giselle! You used both verbs correctly in the same context. Congratulations!
How long did it take you to master Portuguese?
Speaking of mastering Portuguese, how long have you got to master a language?
Regards!!
Good job on the sentence, Joilson. About the time it takes to master a language, check out this article written by Ulisses (Tecla Sap): http://www.teclasap.com.br/quanto-tempo-vou-levar-para-ser-fluente-em-ingles/ I totally agree with what he says there.
Good job on your sentence with “take”, by the way!
Dear Teacher,
I prepared these phrases.
How long does your English class last?
It will not take long to prepare the dessert.
Have nice weekend.
Best Regards.
Vera Abreu.
Great job, Vera Abreu! So I am coming over soon to share the dessert! 🙂
Dear Tim, .
According to the Positive Psychology teachings, it takes us about 10.000 hours of practice to master a new skill, such as a musical instrument, a foreign language, etc. Do you agree?
How long did take you to record this incredible podcast? It is amazing
You are doing an outstanding job. Thanks a million!
I think that number is way too high, Karla. It doesn’t take THAT long to be proficient in a language. I agree with this article written by Ulisses (tecla sap). Check it out here:
Thank you for the nice words about our podcast, by the way. Answering your questions, it takes about half an hour (sometimes a little more) to record it, post it, send the e-mail, etc. I’m so glad you like them!

Tim, How long does it take you to come to your house from the bus station?
Only about 10 minutes, Francisco. 🙂 Good job with your sentence! Thank you for participating here!
Hello Tim,
I got from the song Someone Like you (Adel): >Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too,Don’t forget me, I beg
I remember you said:
“Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead”< …..
.My e.g.: Yesterday I saw the film The Theory of Everything. I really liked it. The film lasted two hours. After I drove to my home and it taked to get there 15 minutes, because it was about 11 p.m. If it was six p.m., it will take more than one and a half hour to get. When I arrived I had to wait to enter in the garage of the building because there was not power and there isn't a generator. The power lasted one hour to come back. If you can correct my mistakes please. Regards. José Luiz
Hey, José! You did a great job! All your sentences were perfectly understandable; but since you asked, let me give a few minor corrections:
– It took me 15 minutes to get there. (or) It took 15 minutes for me to get there.
– If it were 6 p.m. it would have taken me 1 1/2 hours to get there.
– It took one hour for the power to come back on. (or) The power outage lasted one hour.
Your sentences were great as they demonstrated different interesting situations where we can use “take” or “last”.
I have a question. You give as a example: How long does the flight last? You explained that you in this case are a passanger. But if you are the pilot, you ask How long does the flight take or last? I think is last. Thank you.
That’s a very good question, José Luiz! I think I will have to prepare one more mini-podcast to explain that one, as it is a little tricky.
Hi, Tim! I hope you fine.
I’m working at publishing house and this job is freelancer, it lasts two months only. Is it correct?
That’s correct, Valéria! Thank you for participating here.
Can I say “It takes me 3 hours by plane” instead “The flight lasts 3 hours”?
Sure, Marilene. Check out “mini-podcast #33” for more on that.
So in this case, is it correct say “last” refering for things and “take” refering to person? For exemple;
These mini-podcasts last 5 minutes
. It takes me an hour to do my homework.
Thanks! Vera
Yes, those sentences are correct, Vera. However, you can also say that “It takes 5 minutes for the medicine to kick in [fazer efeito]”.
How long does the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron! last? I did not wached it yet.
How long does it take you Tim to prepare the “Inglês básico todo os dias” mini-podcast?
Paulo, The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie take aproximately 2h30m…
Hello, Paul! Your asked the questions correctly! Very good! Now answering them: I checked the Internet and found out that Avengers: Age of Ultron! lasts 2 hours and 21 minutes. Long movie; huh! And it takes me about one hour to prepare these mini-podcasts. Thank you for participating here!
Thanks a lot Teacher! You are the Best!
Thank you, Paulo! And you’re a great student!
Thanks Tim for you attention
How long does it take to get to Bolívar, Missouri by car?
How long does your lecture last?
It takes about 45 minutes.
Best Regards teacher.
Good job with the questions, Maria Cristina! Thank you for participating here!
Very very good
Thanks ,Tim
have a nice weekend!!!
It takes me just a few minutes to study your podcasts
the popcorn lasts 20 minutes to get ready and the cartoon lasts an hour. is this correct ?
Thanks Tim.
That’s not wrong, Fran; but usually we say that it “takes 20 minutes to prepare”.
