Estamos aprendendo as 100 palavras mais usadas na lingua inglesa. De acordo com o livro The Reading Teachers Book of Lists, Third Edition as primeiras 25 palavras dessa lista representam aproximadamente um terço de todo o material escrito em inglês, e as cem que estamos aprendendo representam aproximadamente metade. Vamos aprender todas e estaremos bem encaminhados no domínio da língua inglesa.

  Thank you for participating here, Paulo. The verb “want” is different in Portuguese than in English. It uses a different structure. So you should say:
  – I want you to see this.
  I’ll teach you this verb better in another episode; ok?

Hi, Tim!

May you help me with this doubt…?
Is it correct to say – I hope you to participate; or, – I expect you to come to my party; or
– I want you to leave a reply or we may just say as you said: I hope you participate, I expect you come or I want you leave a reply … I ask that because I allways use “to” before the verbs, tks!

  Hello, Letícia! The verb hope doesn’t use “to”, but the verbs expect and want do; so it should be:
  
  – I hope you participate.
  – I expect you to come.
  – I want you to leave a reply.

I hope (that) I´ve learned how to use “that” in English.
But I was in doubt about the word “home”. I learned “em casa” at home.
Please, when I use only “home” and when I use “at home”.
I´m studying English because I want to be an English teacher, and that´s why I like these tips and I really need your help.

  Hello, Rosane! Thank you for your question. You’re right, we do say “at home”. I guess there are some “ready-made” sentences or more informal sentences that don’t use “at” with “home”. Let me give some examples:
  – He’s at home. (Ele está em casa).
  – He wasn’t home when you called (informal); He wasn’t home when you called (more informal).
  – I’m home! (Cheguei!); He’s home! (Ele chegou!) – expressão comum para se dizer que alguém chegou (em casa).
  – I leave home at 7 a.m. and get home at 6 p.m.

I always noticed this change to use THAT but only now I understood! THAT is important just in case it be a subjet! Everybody knows (that) you are an excellente teacher. This was the explanation that was missing. Thank you!
