Eu estava aqui no meu escritório sentindo os Monday blues quando finalmente decidi get down to work! Por que usei o phrasal verb get down (to) e não o verbo start para dizer que iria começar a trabalhar? Vamos falar sobre isso no mini-podcast de hoje.

  There’s a specific expression for when you decide to go the gym. We say “I’m need to hit the gym!”

  Hello, Francisco! É porque o “work” (neste caso) é substantivo (trabalho), como na frase “get down to business”.

  Hello, Vida. It’s not very common, but you can say that if you want. Or maybe something like “I need to get down to collecting my thoughts.”

Tim em Português poderia-mos dizer: “É hora de pegar no batente!”. E pra mim o “batente”, ou a associação mnemônica para isso seria uma marreta pesada usada para quebrar pedras, ou seja, dar duro, iniciar um trabalho árduo.

Every weekend I get down to my English lessons because in weekdays I am swamped, I only do my listenings!
