I have learned this expression using another phrasal verb: to get away with.
So I am a little bit confused about which one should I use.
Could you please clarify?
You try to GET OUT OF doing something. That means you don’t want to do it, but you can’t escape from doing it.
Now, if you did something you shouldn’t, and you are not punished, then you GOT AWAY WITH IT.
Did you understand the difference?
