    Mas , e a estrutura I am sorry, I am late? Por que não se diz I am sorry for being late? É uma exceção?

      Você pode dizer “I am sorry for being late” (Desculpe-me por ter atrasado), mas o mais comum e informal seria dizer “I’m sorry (that) I’m late.” (o “that” é subentendido). Você está literalmente dizendo “Desculpe-me por estar atrasado”, e seria o equivalente a dizer “Desculpe-me o atraso”.
