Father’s Day is always celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the United States.

I have a student who is a Dr. Who’s fan.  Dr. Who is a British science fiction television program (spelled programme in British English 😉 )  produced by the BBC.  This student was telling me about an episode where a young lady goes back in time and meets her father. She has some nice words to say about her father (although they are not entirely true).

  • spelled = soletrado
  • goes back in time = volta no tempo
  • meets her father = encontra o seu pai
  • she has some nice words to say about her father= (literalmente “ela tem algumas palavras boas a dizer sobre o seu pai”) ela tem elogios a dizer sobre o seu pai
  • although = apesar de que
  • not entirely true = não totalmente verdadeiras

Watch a part of the episode and fill in the blanks below.

  • fill in the blanks = preencha as lacunas

By the way, that goes to show that both the United States AND Great Britain use phrasal verbs!

  • that goes to show = isso mostra
  • both…and… = tanto…quanto…
