Estávamos voltando de Campos de Jordão e paramos para tirar uma linda foto das montanhas. Você saberia dizer essa frase em inglês? Cuidado para não dizer “parei de tirar”, em vez de “parei para tirar”! Por isso vamos conversar sobre como usar o verbo parar em inglês no mini-podcast de hoje.

Hi Tim!
Just a question:
Considering the “t” sound in the end of “stopped to” is completely ommited while speaking as a native, would it be right to say that the pronunciation of “stopped to” and “stop to” is exactly the same?
For example:
“We STOPPED TO take pictures on our way to the beach”
or
“Every time we go to Florianópolis, we STOP TO take pictures on our way to the beach”
Is there any difference in the pronunciation of “stopped to” and “stop to” in those sentences?
Thanks!
You’re right, João. It’s exactly the same pronunciation. You know what is being said by the context.
Thanks a lot, Tim. This is VERY helpful. I have a children’s book in English that I read to my daughter, and I often run into clusters like that (“Thanked the”, “asked the”). I kept getting stuck in those parts and was wondering it wasn’t possible that natives actually pronounced those “ed”s. Once again, thank you Tim. Very enlightening.
Thank you, João Paulo. I am glad I was able to help you answer that question!
