Tenho um aluno que é fã do seriado policial “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”.

Em um episódio recente, um dos investigadores da CSI estava procurando impressões digitais em uma mesa de um cassino.

O gerente do cassino perguntou se ele iria terminar logo. Veja o que o investigador respondeu. (Note o uso da expressão “have one’s work cut out for you”.)

SCRIPT

CASSINO MANAGER: Can the cassino do anything to hurry this up, Mr. Stokes?

NICK: I’m processing as fast as I can, sir. It would help if I had the dice used at this table.

CASSINO MANAGER: We replace the dice every hour.

NICK: I’ve got my work cut out for me then, don’t I?

• hurry (this) up, phrasal verb = apressar (isso)
• as fast as I can =o mais rápido possível
• it would help = ajudaria, seria mais fácil
• dice = dados
• we replace the dice = substituímos os dados
• i’ve got = i have
• then = então
• don’t I? = não é?
