Com o tempo as coisas vão voltar ao normal. Eu acredito nisso. E para dizer isso em inglês, vamos usar o segundo falso cognato da nossa série, o advérbio eventually.

I don’t know if I agree it is a false cognate. “Eventualmente” is often used, in Portuguese, to express this idea of “after a long time” (among other semantic variations, of course) – specially in more formal speeches.
There are the two definitions from Houaiss:
advérbio
1 expressa uma possibilidade, uma hipótese; porventura, talvez, possivelmente ‹tenho livros que eventualmente podem interessar-lhe›
2 agrega ao que está sendo dito um dado, uma condição, um fato que pode ou não ocorrer; por vezes, ocasionalmente ‹o mamão-macho produz flores masculinas e eventualmente flores hermafroditas›
I think you are referring to the second meaning? But that is closer to “possibly” then “eventually”.
Hmm, I don’t know…
See this example: “Depois de se formar, fez um curso de MBA e começou a trabalhar na Solomon Brothers, um grande banco de investimentos, do qual eventualmente se tornou sócio” (from: https://www.investificar.com.br/as-pessoas-mais-ricas-do-mundo/).
I think it’s the same sense you taught, don’t you?
I don’t know if it is a “estrangeirismo” or a jargon, but in my field (Law) this kind of construction is commonly observed.
Thanks for the attention!
P.s. I don’t know how to say “estrangeirismo” in English. Maybe “anglicism” could be an alternative?
Interesting. I actually think it is “americanism” or “anglicism”, as you said, Vinicius. Because I can’t find that definition in Portuguese dictionaries, and people have always corrected me when I used it like this in the past.

Hi, Lucy. In the first sentence, I don’t know if I would use “eventually”. Because you are “eventually” (one day) going to travel to Australia. But in this case, I might say, “I’m going to hopefully travel to Australia next year.”
